AGG Group is proud to have made a donation in support of the community-led campaign to keep Woolton Picture House open. Tucked into Mason Street in the heart of Woolton Village, the cinema is one of the oldest continuously operating picture houses in the country and a Grade II listed building — a piece of Liverpool's cultural fabric that the local community has rallied to protect.
Like many independent cinemas, Woolton Picture House has faced mounting pressures in recent years — rising operating costs, the legacy of pandemic closures and the long shift in how people watch films at home. The campaign to keep it open has been driven almost entirely by volunteers and trustees, with donations from local residents and businesses funding everything from essential building works to the day-to-day running of the venue.
Speaking on the donation, JP, Owner and Director of AGG Group, said:
“Woolton Picture House is part of the fabric of this village. It's where a lot of us grew up watching films, and where our own children have been on rainy Saturday afternoons. Buildings like this carry the memory of a place — once they're gone, you don't get them back. Backing the campaign to keep it open wasn't really a decision for us; it's home.”
For AGG, supporting the campaign felt like the natural thing to do. We work daily on listed and conservation-area properties across Liverpool and Merseyside, and we know how much these buildings mean — not just architecturally, but to the people whose lives have unfolded around them. Woolton Picture House is more than a cinema; it is a meeting place, a Saturday-afternoon ritual and a piece of living heritage that has welcomed generations through its doors.
If you would like to help keep Woolton Picture House running, the simplest way is to visit — every ticket sold keeps the projector turning. The campaign also welcomes donations directly. We hope our small contribution will encourage other local businesses to do the same.
